Hermeneutics or exegesis is the elaboration or interpretation of a text. You are assigned to interpret a passage in the Bible critically. The word's root is solved from the Greek exēgeisthai (via Merriam-Webster). Exegesis involves an examination process through which people understand specific passages of text. A course in the Bible that records an entire event or narrative is called a pericope. Your professor's detailed instructions and your research interests will determine which pericope you choose to interpret or the exact material you need for your work.
