Juneteenth Intercontinental University mission is to better our students through educational experiences both in and out of the classroom, to create a haven where students feel safe to tackle challenges and accomplish their personal and professional goals, to offer various services designed to help students be the best version of themselves.

JIU is dedicated, primarily, to the removal of barriers that restrict access to, and success in, university-level studies and to increasing equality of educational opportunity for black and minority learners worldwide. We are committed to excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and to being of service to the general public.


Mandate

JIU is a board-governed open university, committed, primarily, through distance education, to increasing accessibility in Quebec, throughout Canada, and internationally to university-level study, and to meeting the educational needs of the workplace.


At the undergraduate level, the University is mandated to offer degree programs and university transfer courses in the natural and pure sciences, humanities, social sciences, interdisciplinary studies, administrative studies, commerce, nursing, health and allied professional fields. Credit-based university certificates are offered within the structure of the University’s undergraduate degree programs.


As a partner in Campus Haiti, JIU offers its courses and educational services to students registered in Haiti postsecondary institutions, specifically in the teacher training programs, professional journalism, formation of public servants, agriculture, and citizenship. Working with these and out-of-province institutions, JIU also provides degree completion opportunities for university transfer and graduates students.


Non-credit continuing education courses are also offered.


At the graduate level, the University will offer degree programs in distance education, in the aeronautical sciences; agriculture, veterinary, and biosciences; architecture and design; arts and sciences; business administration and technology; communication and journalism; education and permanent education; engineering and applied sciences; law and government; music and repertory theater, medical sciences, naturopathic medicine. Credit-based university graduate diploma programs will be offered within the structure of the University’s graduate degree programs.


To the benefit of students, JIU is committed to excellence in individualized distance education, coordination of credit and credit transfer, and assessment of prior learning and associated forms of learning accreditation.


Dedicated to research and scholarship in various disciplines, with a particular focus on distance education and associated learning technologies, JIU will provide international leadership in individualized distance education methods and technologies.
